Celebrity News: Friday, July 23
Jorja Fox: The AP reported late yesterday that the fired CSI: Crime Scene Investigation cast member is returning to the hit CBS drama. Fox stars as special materials analyst Sara Sidle on the hit drama. Considering the fact that she earns a reported hundred grand per episode, whatever apology the actress offered to the network bosses to get her old job back is excused. George Eads is still outside the loop even though he apologized for the misunderstanding while speaking at the Television Critics Association. Maybe CBS executives will make him sweat a little longer as punishment for doing the TNT movie Evel Knievel.
Edie Falco: Now that Falco is free from the mob for awhile, she can safely take on projects for other networks without worrying about being punished by HBO the Sopranos way. The Emmy-winning actress will headline Animal Planet's Growing Up Black Leopard in 2005, the true story of a rescued black leopard's first year of residency at the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Conservation Center in Denver, Colorado. She will not be a passive host. Falco is required to help the leopard cub with a daily bath and to feed him from a bottle. The excited star told reporters, "I have a special place in my heart for animal welfare so I jumped at the opportunity to host Animal Planet's program and help educate people about the captive wildlife situation in this country." It sounds like Falco's new show will be almost as dangerous HBO's mob hit. Both shows required that she help tame a beast.
Usher: It's been quite a month for the R&B recording star. His songs and albums top the British music charts as well as Billboard's Hot 100 list in America. He has been number one on Billboard for more than twenty times, so can Usher become the next Will Smith by conquering the movie industry? MTV officially announced yesterday that the singer will headline a future feature film for the music network that will also be executive produced by the star. Paramount Pictures will handle the distribution. He has appeared in numerous films and on television as an actor, but the MTV contract puts Usher in the driver's seat, the lead warrior on a quest to be the very best in his new field. No plot details were disclosed for the untitled movie.
Jennifer Aniston: If the rumors that place the Friends star in Miramax's seedy thriller Derailed hold up, it will be another bold gamble for the actress. She proved in The Good Girl that her A-game can surface when studios allow her to leave the comedy genre. Novelist James Siegel's Derailed tells the sordid story of a man and woman who are caught cheating on his wife by a armed thief who repeatedly rapes the woman and blackmails the man for years in order to keep silent about the affair.
Jennifer Lopez: The actress, singer can look forward to her trip into James Lipton's universe called Inside the Actors Studio. Bravo confirmed yesterday that Lopez will allow Lipton to fawn over her brilliance soon for an episode of the award-winning show that will debut on Sunday, October 10. If Lopez watchers expect Lipton to discuss her Ben/Jen moments or marriage to singer Marc Anthony, they will be disappointed. The show host is known for sticking to all things career related so that his students can learn what it takes to make the bigs.
Joan Rivers: Someone at TV Guide made a crucial mistake when the tube magazine decided to lure the Rivers ladies, Joan and daughter Melissa, away from E! Entertainment Television. The TV Guide Channel had planned to use them as fashion watchers during the Emmy Awards this fall, but it won't happen. Joan and Melissa will have to watch from their homes because E! was granted exclusive rights for Emmy red carpet features by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Just who will take over the event for E! is not known yet, but industry insiders won't be surprised if Rivers raiders appear somewhere near the front entrance to talk with people after the winners have been announced.
